Online Counseling for Jacksonville, FL Residents
Jacksonville is a city of contrasts — it is the largest city by area in the continental United States, yet it maintains a close-knit, community-driven feel rooted in Southern hospitality and deep faith traditions. It is home to a thriving military community centered around Naval Air Station Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport, along with a growing population of young families and professionals drawn to its affordable cost of living and beautiful coastline. But with all that Jacksonville has to offer, accessing quality mental health care can still be a challenge, especially when the city’s sheer size means a therapist across town might be an hour’s drive away.
That is why online counseling is such a game-changer for Jacksonville residents. I am Carmen Frederick, a licensed Florida therapist with more than 30 years of experience, and I bring my full practice directly to you — wherever you are in Jacksonville, the Beaches, or the surrounding communities — through secure telehealth sessions.
Telehealth Counseling Services for Jacksonville
I offer a full spectrum of counseling services tailored to the needs of Jacksonville’s diverse community:
- Couples and Marriage Counseling — Military deployments, career stress, communication breakdowns, and infidelity can shake even the strongest partnerships. As a Gottman Method certified therapist, I use research-backed techniques to help couples rebuild trust, deepen connection, and create lasting change.
- Anxiety Therapy — Whether your anxiety is tied to work performance, health concerns, parenting, or the uncertainty of military life, I help you develop practical strategies to manage anxious thoughts and find genuine peace.
- Depression Counseling — Depression can be especially difficult to recognize when you feel like you should be grateful for what you have. If you are experiencing persistent sadness, fatigue, withdrawal, or loss of interest in things you once enjoyed, therapy can help you find your way back.
- Faith-Based Counseling — Jacksonville has a rich faith community, and many of my clients want therapy that respects and integrates their Christian beliefs. I have spent 17 years counseling within a church setting, and I understand how to weave faith and clinical practice together in a way that honors both.
- Military Family Counseling — With NAS Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport as cornerstones of the community, I understand the unique emotional landscape military families navigate — deployment cycles, reintegration challenges, frequent relocations, and the often-unspoken toll of service life on marriages and children.
- Individual Therapy — Grief, life transitions, self-esteem, identity, anger management — whatever you are working through, individual therapy provides the focused, confidential space you need to process and grow.
About Carmen Frederick, Licensed Florida Therapist
For more than three decades, I have dedicated my career to helping people find healing in their relationships, their faith, and within themselves. I spent 17 years as a counselor at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, where I gained deep experience working with individuals and couples from every background and life circumstance.
I hold the Gottman Method certification for couples therapy, an approach built on over 40 years of research into what makes relationships thrive. My active licenses in Florida, Kentucky, and Indiana allow me to serve clients across state lines. My areas of expertise include couples and marriage counseling, anxiety and depression treatment, faith-integrated therapy, military family support, infidelity recovery, women’s issues, life transitions, and somatic therapy.
I work from my Louisville office but serve Jacksonville clients through telehealth with the same depth and commitment as any in-person session. Learn more about my experience and approach here.
How Online Therapy Works for Jacksonville Residents
Starting online counseling is straightforward, and most clients find the experience more comfortable than they expected:
- Schedule Your First Session — Reach out through my contact page to set up a time that fits your life. I offer flexibility to accommodate military schedules, shift work, and family obligations.
- Connect From Your Space — Find a private, quiet spot — your living room, home office, or even your parked car during a lunch break. All you need is a device with a camera and an internet connection.
- Engage in Confidential Therapy — I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform that protects your privacy as thoroughly as any physical office. Everything we discuss stays between us.
- Make Progress Without the Commute — In a city as geographically spread out as Jacksonville, eliminating the drive to and from a therapist’s office can save you an hour or more per session. That time goes back into your life — back to your family, your work, or simply taking care of yourself.
Why Jacksonville Residents Choose Carmen
Jacksonville’s sprawling layout and limited public transportation make accessing in-person therapy a real logistical challenge for many residents. Add in military schedules that can change overnight, or the demands of raising a family while both partners work, and finding time for therapy can feel impossible.
Online counseling removes those barriers entirely. But convenience is only part of why my Jacksonville clients choose me. They choose me because of the depth of experience I bring. Thirty years of clinical practice means I have walked alongside people through virtually every kind of emotional challenge. My 17 years in a faith-based setting give me a unique ability to integrate spiritual values into therapy for clients who want that — without ever imposing it on those who do not.
I also understand military culture. The pressures of service life, the silent sacrifices spouses make, the emotional complexity of deployment and return — these are things I have worked with extensively. My military family clients often tell me they finally feel understood, because I take the time to learn their world rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
Insurance & Rates
Quality mental health care should be within reach. I offer competitive rates for telehealth sessions and provide superbills for clients seeking out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance providers. For detailed pricing and payment information, please visit my rates and insurance page.
Frequently Asked Questions
My spouse is active-duty military and may deploy soon. Can we start couples counseling now?
Yes, and I strongly encourage it. Starting couples therapy before a deployment gives you both tools to communicate effectively during separation and prepares you for the reintegration period when your spouse returns. If your spouse deploys to a location where telehealth is possible, we may be able to continue sessions during deployment as well — we can discuss the specifics together.
I am not sure if I need individual or couples therapy. How do I decide?
You do not have to decide on your own. When you reach out, we will have an initial conversation about what is going on in your life, and I will help you determine the best approach. Sometimes clients begin with individual sessions and transition to couples therapy later, or vice versa. The most important step is simply starting.
Is online therapy appropriate for someone dealing with depression?
Absolutely. Research shows that telehealth is highly effective for treating depression. The convenience of online sessions can actually be an advantage for clients with depression, since the motivation to leave home and drive to an appointment is often one of the biggest barriers to getting help. With online therapy, all you have to do is log on — and I will meet you right where you are.
