Counseling in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and Online Across Florida

Evidence-based counseling for adults and couples, grounded in more than 30 years of clinical experience. Limited in-person appointments are available in Lakewood Ranch, with secure online counseling available throughout Florida.

Thoughtful, Personalized Counseling for Meaningful Change

Life can look successful and well established on the outside while you feel stressed, disconnected, uncertain, or overwhelmed on the inside.

You may be navigating a major transition, struggling with anxiety, feeling stuck in patterns that are difficult to change, or experiencing challenges in your marriage or relationships. You may be recovering from betrayal, questioning what comes next, or wanting to grow personally, relationally, or spiritually.

I provide personalized counseling for adults and couples in Lakewood Ranch and throughout Florida. My approach goes beyond surface-level support by helping you understand and change the emotional, relational, cognitive, and nervous-system patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Limited in-person appointments are available at my Lakewood Ranch office. Secure online counseling is available for clients located anywhere in Florida.

Individual Counseling for Adults

Individual counseling can help you navigate life transitions, manage stress or anxiety, pursue personal growth, and create healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

You may be functioning well outwardly while privately feeling overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, uncertain, disconnected, or exhausted from carrying too much for too long. Counseling provides a confidential place to understand what you are experiencing and determine what needs to change.

Our work is tailored to your needs and may help you:

* Navigate changes in your career, relationships, family, health, or identity
* Manage anxiety, stress, emotional overwhelm, or depression
* Understand patterns shaped by earlier experiences and relationships
* Develop healthier boundaries without being controlled by guilt
* Improve your emotional regulation and nervous-system resilience
* Strengthen your confidence and sense of direction
* Create healthier and more satisfying relationships
* Move forward with greater clarity, balance, and intention

My goal is not simply to help you manage symptoms. It is to help you understand the underlying patterns contributing to what you are experiencing and develop meaningful, lasting change.

Marriage and Couples Counseling

Even couples who love one another can become caught in patterns of conflict, disconnection, defensiveness, resentment, or withdrawal.

You may keep having different versions of the same argument. One partner may pursue a conversation while the other shuts down. Trust may have been damaged, emotional or physical intimacy may have changed, or the demands of work, parenting, relocation, retirement, or another life transition may be affecting your connection.

I provide personalized marriage and couples counseling that integrates the Gottman Method with an understanding of each couple’s unique history, needs, values, and goals.

Counseling can help you:

* Improve communication and manage conflict more effectively
* Understand recurring relationship patterns
* Reduce criticism, defensiveness, escalation, and emotional withdrawal
* Recognize and manage emotional flooding
* Rebuild friendship and emotional connection
* Restore trust following dishonesty or betrayal
* Navigate changes in emotional or physical intimacy
* Adjust to parenting, relocation, retirement, or other transitions
* Create healthier and more intentional ways of relating to one another

I am Gottman Method Level 3 trained and integrate Gottman Method interventions with attachment-based, cognitive-behavioral, somatic, and neuroscience-informed approaches. Counseling is tailored to the couple rather than limited to a rigid formula.

Your relationship does not need to be in crisis for counseling to be helpful. Some couples seek support because they want to strengthen their connection, prepare for a transition, address concerns before they become more established, or create a healthier foundation for the future.

Infidelity and Trust Recovery

Infidelity and other breaches of trust can disrupt nearly every part of a relationship. The betrayed partner may experience shock, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, anger, grief, or a profound loss of emotional safety. The partner who was unfaithful may feel guilt, shame, confusion, defensiveness, or uncertainty about how to repair the damage.

Moving forward requires more than simply deciding to forgive or stop discussing what happened.

Counseling can provide structure for:

* Stabilizing the immediate crisis
* Understanding what happened without excusing harmful choices
* Establishing appropriate transparency and boundaries
* Managing triggers and intense emotional reactions
* Rebuilding emotional safety
* Developing accountability
* Determining whether and how trust can be restored
* Creating healthier relationship patterns moving forward

Recovery is not about pretending the betrayal did not happen or returning to the relationship exactly as it was. It involves understanding what healing requires and determining whether the couple can build something more honest, secure, and connected.

Counseling Through Life Transitions

Even welcome changes can place significant demands on your emotional and nervous systems.

Relocating to Florida, changing careers, becoming a parent, launching children, entering retirement, experiencing changes in health, or adjusting to a new stage of marriage can affect your identity, relationships, routines, and sense of purpose.

Relocation can be particularly complicated. You may appreciate your new life in Lakewood Ranch while also missing established friendships, family connections, a church community, familiar routines, or the sense of belonging you had before moving.

Retirement can bring similar mixed emotions. Greater freedom may arrive alongside questions about purpose, identity, changing roles, or how to adjust to spending substantially more time with your spouse.

Counseling can help individuals and couples navigate these transitions with greater awareness, flexibility, and intention.

Christian Counseling When Requested

Some of my clients are Christians who want sound clinical care without leaving an important part of themselves outside the counseling room.

I offer evidence-based counseling for individuals and couples whose Christian faith is important to them. When requested, faith is meaningfully integrated into counseling in a way that honors and supports each client’s beliefs and values.

Counseling may include exploring how your faith influences:

* Identity and personal growth
* Marriage, relationships, and parenting
* Important decisions and life transitions
* Forgiveness, reconciliation, grace, and accountability
* Suffering, loss, and unanswered questions
* Boundaries and personal responsibility
* Spiritual struggles or periods of doubt
* The desire to live a more God-centered life

Christian counseling does not need to reduce complex problems to simplistic answers. Our work can consider both sound clinical understanding and the Christian beliefs and values that are important to you.

Faith is never assumed, imposed, or used in place of appropriate clinical care.

A Personalized, Evidence-Based Approach

No single method is appropriate for every client or every concern. I tailor counseling to your needs, history, goals, and responses to the therapeutic process.

Depending on your needs, my approach may incorporate:

* Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
* Gottman Method couples therapy
* Attachment-based therapy
* Somatic therapy
* EMDR
* Trauma-informed care
* Emotional-regulation strategies
* Neuroscience-informed methods
* Exploration of family-of-origin and relationship patterns
* Christian faith integration when requested

This whole-person approach considers how thoughts, emotions, relationships, earlier experiences, physical responses, and the nervous system work together.

The purpose is not only to help you understand why you feel or respond the way you do. Counseling can also help you change the patterns that are no longer serving you.
