Infidelity Recovery Counseling

Louisville, KY | Online Therapy in Kentucky, Florida & Indiana

A Structured, Evidence-Based Approach to Healing After Infidelity

Discovering an affair or betrayal can feel overwhelming and disorienting. Many couples experience shock, grief, anger, confusion, and deep uncertainty about what comes next. While infidelity is one of the most painful experiences a relationship can face, healing and repair are possible with the right support, structure, and guidance.

I provide infidelity recovery counseling for couples who want a thoughtful, evidence-based path forward—whether that means rebuilding trust, restoring emotional connection, or gaining clarity about the future of their relationship.

My practice is based in Louisville, Kentucky, and I also offer secure online therapy (telehealth) for couples in Kentucky, Florida, and Indiana.

Infidelity Recovery Counseling in Louisville, KY and Online

Infidelity recovery is not about rushing to forgiveness, minimizing what happened, or pretending the pain is not real. It is a process that requires emotional safety, careful pacing, accountability, and space for both partners to be heard.

My work is strongly informed by the research of the Gottman Institute, which outlines a clear, compassionate framework for healing after an affair. This approach focuses on:

Stabilizing the relationship after betrayal
Understanding the emotional impact of the affair on both partners
Rebuilding trust through transparency and accountability
Restoring emotional connection and intimacy
Creating a stronger foundation for the future

For couples who would like to explore this research-based framework further, I often recommend this article from the Gottman Institute:

What to Expect in Infidelity Recovery Counseling

Because the early phase of infidelity recovery is often the most emotionally intense, I recommend a focused structure at the beginning of therapy, followed by a clear plan for ongoing support.

Step 1: Stabilization and Assessment (First 7–10 Days)

Ideally, the first four sessions occur within the first week to ten days and include:

  1. An initial couples session to understand what has occurred, assess emotional safety, and clarify
    immediate concerns.
  2. Individual sessions with each partner (two separate sessions) to process emotions, ask
questions, and establish boundaries and expectations.
  3. A follow-up couples session to begin stabilizing the relationship, identify goals, and outline a
    clear treatment plan.

This early structure helps slow the process, reduce reactivity, and create emotional containment during a highly stressful time.

Step 2: Ongoing Intensive Infidelity Recovery Therapy

After the initial stabilization phase, many couples benefit from twice-weekly therapy sessions, or more frequently if clinically indicated. This level of support helps couples:

Continue rebuilding trust and emotional safety
Work through ongoing triggers and emotional responses
Improve communication and relational patterns
Maintain momentum in the healing process

As progress is made and the relationship becomes more stable, sessions are gradually reduced to once weekly and then spaced further apart when clinically appropriate.

Weekend Infidelity Recovery Intensives

For some couples, a weekend intensive provides the best starting point—especially when emotions are high, schedules are limited, or a more concentrated approach is needed.

Weekend Intensive Format

Weekend intensives are typically held on Friday and Saturday and last approximately 3–6 hours each day. These intensives may include:

A combination of couples sessions and individual sessions
Focused work on the impact of betrayal
Structured guidance for rebuilding trust and emotional safety
Clear recommendations for next steps

Weekend intensives are followed by once or twice-weekly counseling, allowing couples to integrate the work and receive ongoing support. Over time, sessions are tapered as stability and progress increase.

My Approach to Working With Couples After Infidelity

I approach infidelity recovery with steadiness, neutrality, and respect for both partners. My role is not to take sides, assign blame, or rush outcomes. Instead, I help couples:

Understand what happened and why it was so impactful
Regulate intense emotional responses
Rebuild trust through clear agreements and accountability
Improve communication and emotional connection
Decide—together—what healing and growth look like moving forward

Every couple’s situation is unique, and the pace and structure of therapy are tailored to your needs.

Christian & Faith-Informed Infidelity Recovery Counseling

For many couples, faith is not separate from their marriage—it is foundational. I specialize in working with Christian couples who desire to restore and strengthen their marriage after infidelity in a way that honors both their faith and the emotional work required for true repair.

For couples who want a Christian or faith-informed approach, therapy can include thoughtful exploration of how faith, covenant, forgiveness, grace, repentance, reconciliation, and accountability intersect with the healing process. Faith integration is never forced and is always guided by the couple’s beliefs and goals.

Faith-informed infidelity recovery may include:
Exploring the meaning of marriage and covenant within a Christian framework
Integrating prayer, Scripture, or spiritual reflection when desired
Addressing guilt, shame, forgiveness, and restoration in a clinically grounded way
Supporting both partners as they pursue healing, clarity, and renewed trust

My role is to support the restoration of a healthy Christian marriage while honoring both clinical best practices and deeply held spiritual values.

Is an Infidelity Recovery Intensive Right for Us?

An intensive approach may be recommended if:

The discovery of the affair is recent and emotions feel overwhelming
One or both partners are experiencing high levels of distress or reactivity
There is a strong desire to stabilize the relationship quickly
Schedules or distance make weekly sessions difficult
You want focused, structured support early in the healing process

During an initial consultation or first session, we will discuss your situation and determine whether weekly therapy, a short-term intensive schedule, or a weekend intensive is the best fit.
