Marriage & Couples Therapy
Louisville, KY | Online Therapy in Kentucky, Florida & Indiana
Marriage counseling can be helpful at many different points in a relationship. Some couples seek counseling because they are experiencing ongoing conflict or emotional distance. Others come because they want to strengthen a relationship that matters deeply to them and be more intentional about how they grow together.
I provide marriage counseling and couples therapy in Louisville, Kentucky, and offer secure online therapy (telehealth) for couples in Kentucky, Florida, and Indiana. I work with couples from a variety of backgrounds, including Christian couples who desire a faith-informed approach to marriage counseling.
For couples who want their faith thoughtfully integrated into therapy, counseling may include reflection on shared values, commitment, forgiveness, and meaning within marriage—always grounded in sound clinical practice and guided by the couple’s preferences.
When Marriage Counseling Is Helpful
Couples seek marriage counseling for many reasons, including:
Communication difficulties or recurring conflict
Feeling emotionally disconnected or stuck
Navigating stress, transitions, or changing roles
Rebuilding trust or addressing unresolved hurts
Differences in expectations, priorities, or values
A desire for a stronger, healthier, more connected marriage
Marriage counseling is not only for couples in crisis. Many couples seek therapy because they want to understand one another more deeply, improve how they communicate, and build a relationship that is resilient and intentional over time.
My Approach to Marriage Counseling
My approach to marriage counseling is structured, thoughtful, and evidence-based, while remaining responsive to the unique dynamics of each couple.
I am trained in the Gottman Method for couples therapy, a research-based approach shown to improve communication, reduce conflict, strengthen emotional intimacy, and increase relationship satisfaction. Gottman-based work helps couples develop practical skills while also addressing the deeper emotional patterns that shape how partners relate to one another.
In addition to Gottman work, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), attachment-based therapy, and somatic and neuroscience-informed approaches. This allows therapy to address communication patterns, emotional responses, and the ways stress and past experiences influence interactions within the relationship.
I also specialize in working with couples recovering from infidelity and betrayal, and many couples begin marriage counseling after an affair or significant rupture in trust. When infidelity is part of your story, therapy is structured to provide stabilization, clarity, and a clear path forward. You can learn more about this approach on my Infidelity Recovery Counseling page.
What to Expect in Marriage Counseling
Marriage counseling typically begins with an initial couples session to understand your concerns, goals, and relationship history. From there, therapy may focus on:
Improving communication and reducing reactive patterns
Increasing emotional safety and understanding
Strengthening trust, friendship, and connection
Developing practical tools for navigating conflict
Identifying and changing patterns that keep couples stuck
Some couples benefit from weekly sessions, while others may choose more frequent sessions for a period of time, particularly during seasons of increased stress. The pace and structure of therapy are tailored to your needs and adjusted as progress is made.
For couples experiencing significant distress or time-sensitive concerns—such as recent infidelity—I may recommend a short-term intensive approach, similar to what is outlined on my Infidelity Recovery Counseling page.
Marriage Counseling for Christian Couples
Many Christian couples desire counseling that honors both their faith and the emotional work required for growth and repair. I offer faith-informed marriage counseling for couples who want their Christian beliefs and values respectfully integrated into the therapy process.
Earlier in my career, I spent 17 years serving in the Counseling Ministry of Southeast Christian Church, where I worked extensively with couples seeking Christian and faith-informed marriage counseling. That experience provided a strong foundation for understanding the unique challenges Christian couples face as they seek to honor their faith, strengthen their marriage, and navigate conflict, disconnection, or change.
Faith-informed marriage counseling may include:
Exploring shared values and spiritual commitments
Reflecting on faith, forgiveness, grace, and reconciliation
Considering how spiritual beliefs shape communication and conflict
Integrating prayer, Scripture, or spiritual reflection when desired
The inclusion of faith-based elements is always client-directed. My role is to support your marriage in a way that aligns with both clinical best practices and your spiritual values, without pressure or assumption.
Online Marriage Counseling
In addition to in-person sessions in Louisville, Kentucky, I provide online marriage counseling for couples in Kentucky, Florida, and Indiana. Telehealth allows couples to access high-quality counseling with flexibility and privacy while maintaining the same professional standards of care.
