About Carmen Frederick, Licensed Therapist in Louisville, Kentucky

Carmen Frederick, M.Ed., Ed.S.

Licensed Psychological Associate
(Practicing @ Selah Counseling-Louisville, Kentucky)

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (Indiana & Florida)

With over 30 years of clinical experience, I provide individual counseling and couples therapy for adults who want to grow emotionally, strengthen their relationships, and navigate important life seasons with clarity and confidence. My practice is based in Louisville, Kentucky, and I also provide secure online therapy (telehealth) for residents of Kentucky, Florida, and Indiana.. I will begin offering limited in-person sessions in Lakewood Ranch, Florida in early 2026.

While I have extensive training and experience providing marriage counseling, couples therapy, and infidelity recovery, I also have a strong background in working with women and individual clients who are navigating anxiety, depression, relationship patterns, identity shifts, and major life transitions. Many of my clients are high-functioning adults who want to better understand themselves, improve their relationships, and live with greater intention and emotional balance.

How I Work

My approach to therapy is integrative, thoughtful, and grounded in both science and experience. I do not use a one-size-fits-all model. Instead, I draw from several evidence-based approaches so therapy can be tailored to the person or couple sitting in front of me.

I am trained in the Gottman Method for couples therapy, which provides a strong research-based framework for helping couples improve communication, resolve conflict, rebuild trust, and deepen emotional connection. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior.

Alongside CBT and Gottman work, I integrate attachment-based therapy, somatic awareness, and neuroscience-informed approaches to help clients understand how emotions, stress, and relationship patterns are shaped by both life experience and the nervous system. This allows therapy to move beyond insight alone and support real, embodied change.

Individual Therapy & Women’s Work

A large part of my practice is devoted to working with women and individual clients who are navigating anxiety, relational stress, identity changes, and major life transitions. Therapy can be a space to slow down, reflect, and better understand what you are experiencing—emotionally, relationally, and physically.

Many women come to therapy not because something is “wrong,” but because they want to live with more clarity, confidence, and emotional balance. Individual counseling can help you recognize patterns, develop healthier boundaries, and build a stronger relationship with yourself and others.

Couples Therapy & Infidelity Recovery

I also work with couples who want to strengthen their relationship or who are recovering from betrayal, emotional disconnection, or a breakdown in trust. Infidelity recovery and marriage counseling are structured, intentional processes that help couples stabilize, understand what happened, and move forward with greater emotional safety and connection.

Using Gottman Method couples therapy, attachment-based work, and evidence-based relationship counseling, I help couples rebuild trust and create healthier, more resilient partnerships.

Faith-Informed & Christian Counseling

Many of my clients are Christians for whom faith is central—or who want it to become a more integrated part of their lives. I have extensive experience providing counseling that may be referred to as Christian, faith-based or faith-informed, while also honoring sound clinical practice.

Earlier in my career, I spent 17 years working in the counseling ministry of Southeast Christian Church, where I walked alongside individuals and couples navigating faith, relationships, and personal growth. That experience continues to shape the way I approach therapy today—with deep respect for each person’s spiritual journey, values, and questions.

The counseling I offer supports emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual well-being. Each client determines how faith or spiritual elements—such as Scripture, prayer, or reflection—are incorporated into the therapy process. My role is to meet you where you are and support the approach that aligns best with your beliefs and goals.
